Craigslist seller cannot get a call back from realtor
After the fun filled post the other day on Craigslist, I came across this frustration today.
Here is the link:
Sorry in advance, but it was typed in all caps:
THAT I HIRE TO SELL MY HOUSE TO ANSWER MY CALL? OR, AT THE VERY LEAST CALL ME BACK AFTER I LEAVE THEM A MESSAGE!!!!!!! I AM SO SICK OF THESE REALTOR'S TALKING SHIT, THEN YOU SIGN A CONTRACT WITH THEM, AND GUESS WHAT? THEY BECOME A GHOST!!!!!! YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE, AND I AM ABOUT TO FIRE YOUR ASS. YOU ARE, OR WILL BE THE THIRD REALTOR I HAVE FIRED, AND UNTIL YOU GUY'S LEARN HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR CLIENTS, YOU WONT BE THE LAST. YOU TALKED SUCH A BIG GAME, SO BIG THAT I ACTUALLY WENT WITH YOU, RATHER THEN A CLOSE FAMILY FRIEND!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT A MISTAKE THAT WAS. IF THERE IS ANY DECENT REALTOR'S OUT THERE, SEND ME SOME INFO. MY HOUSE IS IN BALTIMORE COUNTY. I AM SELLING. BUT KEEP IN MIND, IF YOU DONT ANSWER MY CALLS, AND DONT RETURN THEM, YOU WILL BE FIRED TO!!! ESPECIALLY IF I CALL FROM ANOTHER NUMBER YOU DO NOT KNOW, AND YOU ANSWER, LIKE MY REALTOR DID. SO, IF YOU CAN MEET THE CHALLENGE AND THINK YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES TO SELL MY HOUSE, YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In this market I am not surprised by this. I am sure a lot of sellers are really nervous as we are getting into panic mode. Some of the reasons they might not be calling back is that the seller is not realistic on price. With so much inventory that they may not need anymore listings to suck up advertising dollars. In any case, any Realtors lurking in the background want to comment? It is understood anonymous not to upset your current listings.

I think we are currently in the denial phase of the housing cycle. Sellers are not bringing down there asking prices fast enough. I think once the spring season is in full swing accompanied with all the additional inventory we'll enter into the fear/desperation phase. Then by the end of summer we'll see some good deals as we get into the panic phase. Just my thoughts.
I'm not a realtor, but I heard a realtor say today that she was considering dropping a client if he didn't lower his asking price. Houses aren't selling at these prices, and it frustrates the realtors who need to move homes to make a living.
Not to mention the potential buyer who doesn't want to get stuck buying an asset that is deflating.
Also, I can't understand why every commentator who has something to say about the decline in home prices acts like it is the worst thing to happen since the Great Depression. Do they not realize that when home prices doubled between 2004 and 2007 millions of American families were priced out of a market they could previously afford? Most homeowners could not buy their OWN home today, at current prices, and they can only trade houses by virtue of the equity they've accumulated.
Finally, what the h*ll is our government doing? Why is Washington determined to do everything possible to try and make the absurd home price spike stick? Why are they spending MY tax dollars to insure that I cannot afford the home that I want?
I don't know what the rules are in Maryland, but here in Virginia, you can't just fire your Realtor. There's a contract in place called Exclusive Right to Sell, entitling the Realtor to a commission for the first 90 days. I don't remember if the Seller has the right to cancel the contract (it's been a while since I sold/bought a house), but I remember thinking it wasn't easy.
I am West Toronto realtor so I don't have to be anonymous :) I think you are right, increasing panic and falling prices cause such nervous reactions, on the other hand, nervous and rude clients are here all the time. When the market is booming, they expect more, and when the market is falling, they expect - more. It's natural. As you mentioned, you can avoid this problem, if you discuss the price and selling chances clearly at the beginning. On the other hand, some agents are afraid not to lose customer and they agree with unreal conditions...
Off topic:
If you paste the text in an excel cell (the text should be less than 32.000 characters), there's a function that makes it "right" (caps at the beginning of the sentence ...)
Let the Panic begin. The pressure is on.
I can't wait to see these sellers as we head into the fall and they realize they need to actually hold through another winter.
I think you will see the wheels come off on prices when this reality hits.
Great subject. I am a Realtor and have a lot of clients speaking about past agents that have not called. In some cases the agents do not call but in a lot of cases sellers are expecting the agent to be available 24 hours a day. Unless I am paid like a urgent I know I will not give up my family life.
Agents do also avoid the scary seller especially when there is no way to make them happy.
